We are closed! In future, ice skating in the Olympic Park will have a new home in the SAP Garden.

 

It was the very first. Even before all the other venues in the Olympic Park. The Olympic Ice Stadium was opened back in 1967, before construction work for the 1972 Summer Olympics had even begun next door, and at a time when sports planes were still taking off and landing at the Oberwiesenfeld airfield.

The Olympic Ice Stadium became the venue for thrilling duels between the German national ice hockey team and high-calibre opponents such as Russia or Canada, Sweden or the Czech Republic, as well as the home of many of Munich's top ice hockey teams, from EHC 1970 to EC Hedos and the Munich Barons to EHC Red Bull Munich. The hall proved its multifunctionality not only as the venue for the 1969 World Table Tennis Championships and the 1972 Olympic boxing matches, but also with the one-year use of the FC Bayern basketball team between 2010 and 2011.

The Olympic Ice Sports Centre was closed in spring 2024. From autumn 2024, the SAP Garden with its three ice rinks for recreational and popular sports will offer all ice skating enthusiasts a new home.
